  • Exide Technologies launches two new AGM batteries for Japanese vehicles
  • European car parc coverage increases by 900.000 vehicles
  • New B24 AGM types can be utilized as auxiliary or SLI replacement

Exide Technologies, a leading provider of innovative and sustainable battery solutions for automotive and industrial applications, is pleased to announce the latest additions to its Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) range, expanding coverage by nearly one million additional vehicles in Europe.

This new product launch provides automotive aftermarket professionals an attractive opportunity to increase revenue by offering customers reliable, robust, and long-lasting batteries.

Available from December 2024, the new AGM EK454 and EK457 (45Ah/380A, size B24) are equipped with standard and thin taper terminals according to European Norm (EN) and Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) respectively, allowing for greater compatibility across a wider range of vehicles.

Previously, AGM technology was mostly used in vehicles with Start-Stop systems manufactured in Europe. Now, Exide’s new AGM B24 batteries are also compatible with several hybrid models made in Japan. Depending on the vehicle model, Exide EK454 and EK457 can be used as an auxiliary battery or as a starting, lighting, and ignition (SLI) battery, depending on the vehicle’s specifications.

Vehicles that can now be fitted with Exide’s AGM EK454 and EK457 include Toyota Prius (2004-2014), Toyota Auris (2007-2012, Toyota Rav4 (2013-2015), Toyota Mirai (2015-2020), Toyota Grand Prius (od 2012), Lexus CT200h (od 2011), Mitsubishi Outlander (2012-2018), and Mazda MX5 NB (1998-2005).

This expanded compatibility provides professionals with an opportunity to serve a wider customer base while offering an environmentally friendly solution that supports stricter emissions and fuel efficiency standards.

Uncompromising Quality and Reliability

Exide’s new AGM EK454 and EK457 batteries are backed by thorough testing, providing customers and workshops with the highest levels of confidence in their durability. Both batteries successfully underwent rigorous cycle tests and health assessments, confirming that they meet the M3 classification, a benchmark under the European Standard EN 50342-6:2015 that certifies highest endurance and cycle life for lead-acid batteries used in Start-Stop systems.
