Koninklijke Dekker Hout, a prominent wood and sheet material producer and wholesaler based in The Hague, Netherlands, has reaffirmed its leadership in sustainability by powering its entire operation with 100% renewable energy. Through the implementation of Exide Technologies' Customized Energy Systems (CES) and a network of collaborating partners, Koninklijke Dekker Hout has revolutionized its energy production, storage, and usage.

Solar Power Milestone: Advanced Storage Meets Renewable Innovation
KoninklijkeDekker Hout has installed over 40,000 solar panels, generating nearly 10 GWh of clean energy annually – five times the company’s daily operational needs. To optimize this surplus energy, Koninklijke Dekker Hout deployed a cutting-edge energy storage solution: 12 Solition Mega One containers, delivering a 13.2MWh lithium-ion iron phosphate battery system.

This innovative system not only enables Koninklijke Dekker Hout to store surplus solar energy for self-sufficient usage but also allows the company to share excess energy with the local community. Currently operating with seven of the 12 storage containers, Koninklijke Dekker Hout anticipates a full return on investment within just seven years and plans to expand its solar capacity to 50,000 panels in the near future.

Exide Technologies CES: Ensuring Sustainability Success
Exide Technologies' Customized Energy Systems (CES) played a pivotal role in this groundbreaking achievement. The Solition Mega energy storage systems were seamlessly integrated with Koninklijke Dekker Hout's energy infrastructure using Spectral Energy’s advanced energy management software. Further collaboration with industry partners, including Unica Industry Solutions for installation, Edmij for energy trading, and Stedin for grid integration, ensured the project’s success.

The result: a significant reduction of CO2 emissions by 920 tons annually, underscoring Koninklijke Dekker Hout's unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and renewable energy leadership.

Robert Jan Dekker, Owner of Koninklijke Dekker Hout, commented:
“To maximize the power generated from our solar panels, we needed an innovative solution to store and utilize it effectively. By investing in Exide Technologies' advanced battery storage system, we’ve achieved complete control over our energy usage and supply to the grid, whereby only 20% are used by our facilities. This milestone reflects the success of our collaboration with Exide Technologies and other key partners. Together, we have created a sustainable energy model that benefits not only our operations but also the broader community. Here at Koninklijke Dekker, we are proud to lead the way in clean energy adoption.”

Jeroen van Hapert, Managing Director of Customized Energy Systems at Exide Technologies, added:
“Koninklijke Dekker Hout's transformation to 100% renewable energy is a testament to what can be achieved through innovation and collaboration. By deploying our Solition Mega energy storage containers alongside a team of trusted partners, Koninklijke Dekker Hout has positioned itself as a true leader in renewable energy solutions. We are proud to be part of this journey and look forward to supporting future expansions of their energy initiatives.”

A Model for Sustainable Innovation
The partnership between Exide Technologies, Koninklijke Dekker Hout, and its collaborators highlights the enormous potential of renewable energy and energy storage solutions in driving environmental progress. As companies worldwide look to reduce their carbon footprint and embrace cleaner energy, Koninklijke Dekker Hout's achievement serves as a model of sustainability, efficiency, and innovation.
