Exide Technologies is a leading provider of innovative and sustainable battery storage solutions for automotive and industrial applications. With more than 135 years of experience, Exide has developed and globally marketed innovative batteries and systems, contributing to the energy transition, and driving a cleaner future.
Exide Technologies’ Customized Energy Systems BV unit (CES) provides state-of-the-art energy and battery storage solutions, using advanced lithium-ion battery technology. These solutions address the energy challenges of today and tomorrow, facilitating the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. By adopting our modular systems and solutions, businesses can reduce pollution, minimize noise, and gain control over their energy consumption and costs.
In spring, Customized Energy Systems BV, in partnership with FREBER AS, based in Drammen, Norway, successfully delivered four Solition Mega One energy storage systems to Unibuss AS, a prominent bus operator in Oslo, which will play a crucial role in fully electrifying the Norwegian bus company’s fleet and charging infrastructure. This transformative project has set new standards for sustainability and efficiency in the city’s public transportation landscape.
In a competitive market, where municipal tenders now prioritize environmental considerations over mere pricing, Unibuss operates as a frontrunner. The company has incorporated fully electric buses and solar and storage solutions into its operations. Notably, each electric bus consumes approximately 500 kWh of energy, necessitating a robust and reliable charging infrastructure.
To support its expanding electric fleet, Unibuss installed multiple chargers at each bus terminal. CES provided the corresponding customized energy storage systems housed within strategically positioned containers. These systems enhance charging capabilities, allowing Unibuss to explore the advantages of stationary storage.
Efficient solutions in Oslo’s challenging climate
The Transition to an electric fleet in Oslo’s demanding climate presented significant logistical challenges. These ranged from managing high energy demands to addressing the intricacies of charging infrastructure. However, with the experience and expertise of Exide Technologies’ Customized Energy Systems, solutions were successfully implemented. The systems provide real-time monitoring and data-driven decision-making, ensuring seamless and efficient operations.
Rapid installation and promising results
One of the standout moments of the project was its swift yet accurate implementation. Unibuss had planned to complete the project within seven months, and thanks to the effectiveness of the partnership, this target was met. The deployment of the four Solition Mega One containerized energy storage systems has yielded early, promising results. Integrating these systems has enhanced Unibuss’ community responsibilities, improving efficiency and reliability. As a result, commuters now enjoy a better experience, while reduced emissions contribute to cleaner air and a healthier living environment.
Pioneering sustainable transportation
