  • MEP Lena Düpont and Fritz Güntzler of the Federal Bundestag (MdB) learn about developments in the battery industry at Exide Technologies’ production facility in Bad Lauterberg
  • The politicians discuss the European Green Deal and EU battery regulation
  • Exide and its battery solutions support the security of supply and energy management during the Covid-19 pandemic

Gennevilliers, France – (20 August, 2020) – Battery manufacturer Exide Technologies (www.exidegroup.com/eu), a global provider of energy storage solutions, this week welcomed MEP Lena Düpont and Fritz Güntzler of the German Bundestag at its production plant in Bad Lauterberg, Germany.

On a visit to the production facility the parliamentarians spoke with Exide employees about the company’s importance for the region and the development of battery and energy management. The discussions focused on European policy and Covid-19. During the pandemic it has become especially clear how Exide's solutions contribute crucially to the security of supply and energy management in logistics and healthcare in the region.

As a leading member of EUROBAT (Association of European Automotive and Industrial Battery Manufacturers), Exide is also actively involved at the European political level. The battery industry provides the key technologies to realise the European Commission’s historic Green Deal. Core elements of the Deal, such as revision of EU battery regulation, were discussed with Ms. Düpont. Exide strives for sustainability in energy production and storage and, through its investments in research and development, is a pioneer in battery solutions for steady transition to a decarbonised energy sector. Exide also has the infrastructure to take back and recycle products in-house or through service partners.

"With its leading energy storage solutions that serve to secure high-tech applications, Exide Technologies is one of the hidden champions in the region," says Lena Düpont. "I was delighted to visit Exide as one of the most important employers in the Southern Harz region and, given the current developments, to discuss solutions to the ongoing decarbonisation and security of supply."

Düpont, a member of the CDU party in Germany, was elected to the European Parliament for the first time in 2019. A political scientist with an interest in regional development and sustainable growth, she is a member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and is a substitute member of the Committees on Regional Development, Agriculture and Rural Development.

Her party colleague Fritz Güntzler from the constituency of Göttingen has been a member of the German Bundestag since autumn 2013. As a member of the Finance Committee and parliamentary control body for financial market stabilisation, his main focus is on finance. He is also active in the Bundestag's Sports Committee.
